RO membrane rejects all the solids dissolved in water, These solids may be good or bad for human health and are collectively called TDS. In Northern part of India, Ground water contains very poisonous compounds due to heavy use of pesticides and chemical fertlizers. It is worrying to note that geographically, Punjab is less than 3% of india, but 18% of fertilizers and pesticides of India, are consumed in Punjab. So solids dissoved in our ground water are dangerous and RO system removes them. No other water purifying technology except RO system is suitable for ground water of Punjab.
But at the same time, RO removes essential minerals like calcium, sodium, magnesium etc from water and makes it somewhat acidic. There are some technologies now a days that can add essential minerals to RO water and can enhance pH of RO water, making it alkaline. So for ground water of northern India RO system is must but it should be fitted with some kind of pH enhancing and Remineralisation technology.
